Baby Shower Games – 10 Fun Games Everyone Will Love

If you are looking for Baby Shower Games that are extremely fun for everyone, and that are easy to plan and participate in, then you will love the games listed below. From word games to memory games, acting games to girly games, to even meaningful games and activities – there are games for every preference and setting. Have fun!

1) Baby Memory Game: Before the shower, place roughly 25 items on a cookie sheet that the mother-to-be will need. Bring the cookie sheet out with all the items for everyone to view for about 30-40 seconds. Then, remove the pan of items and everyone will have about 2 minutes to write down as many items that they can remember. The person who writes the most down will receive a prize, and all the items will go to the mother. (Examples of items: bottle, brush, pacifier, bib, soap, blanket, burp cloth, wipes, shoes, socks, diaper, pins, teddy bear, rattle, onesie, baby food, ear syringe, etc.)

2) Gerber Taste & Smell Guessing: In preparation, buy many different kinds of baby foods and remove the labels (but make sure you remember or mark which one is which). Place all the bottles on a tray and pass it around to all the women. Women can taste or smell each food, and then write down their guess on their own paper. The woman who guesses the most right gets a prize.

3) Mystery Guess: As guests arrive, have a jar full of random baby items the mother-to-be will need. It can have: binky’s, diapers, rags, onesies, soaps, lotions, socks, etc. Each guest will take a paper and make a guess as to how many total items they think are in the jar. The person who guesses closest will receive a prize at the end of the shower (and of course, all the items go to the mother-to-be).

4) Baby Shower Bingo: As exciting as it is watching the mom-to-be open all her presents, this game will help all the others watching have a little fun as well. Label each gift that was brought by simply writing a number on the gift (if 15 gifts were brought, number the gifts 1-15).  Then, each woman will take a paper and create 15 squares and randomly place the numbers 1-15 throughout their squares. Each woman will place their numbers individually, so each person’s numbers are in different squares. Also, if there are more or less than 15 gifts, create as many squares on the paper as gifts. Then, when mom-to-be opens a present, she’ll call out that gift’s number, and everyone will mark off that number on their sheet. Once someone gets 5 in a row (or an X, borders, or blackout), they get a prize.

5) Baby Alphabet: Each guest will take a pen and paper, and along the left side of the paper they will vertically write all the letters of the alphabet. At ‘go,’ each woman will write as many baby items as they can for each letter. For the letter B, as an example, you might write: bottle, binky, burp cloth, brush, booties, etc. If a guest wrote these, they would get 5 points for the letter B. Each guest receives a point for every item they write down; however, if they did not write anything down for a letter (or multiple letters), they lose a point for every letter they did not write an item. A prize is given to the woman who wrote the most down. To make it more difficult and fun, allot 10 seconds for each letter, and people only get points for writing something that nobody else wrote down. Go through every letter, and the person with the most points wins.

6) Baby Pictures: Before the shower, ask for the baby pictures of all those that will be attending. And for fun, get a baby picture of grandma (if she is no longer with you), a close neighbor friend, a celebrity, even dad or an uncle just for fun, etc. (make sure everyone knows or would know who the person is). Make a collage of all the pictures and number each baby picture. Each guest will then write down who they think each baby photo is of. The person who guessed the most right will win a prize.

7) Unscramble the Baby Words: In preparation, write down about 20-30 baby words/items. Then, unscramble the letter in each word. Place all the words on one page and make copies for each guest. Then, divide everyone into teams of two and give them 5 minutes to unscramble as many words as they can. The team to unscramble the most receives a prize.

8) Baby Drawing Charades: In preparation, write down about 20 baby related items on their own individual slip of paper, and place all the slips in a bowl. Items could be: bottle, crib, rocking chair, car seat, burp cloth, etc. Divide the group into two teams and one person from each team will come to the front. They will draw out one slip and both look at it. At ‘go,’ these two will then have to draw this item (without talking) to their teammates. The team that guesses first receives a point.  Send another person from each team up, so each person has a turn drawing. The team with the most points at the end receives a prize.

9) Story Time & Advice: Women and mothers always love talking about their children. So, if other mothers attend the shower, have each one of them take just a few minutes each to share both a funny experience as a mother with a baby, and then any advice they have for the new mother-to-be.

10) Guess the Price: In preparation, purchase many items that the mother-to-be will need. (Examples: crib, stroller, diapers, clothing items, lotion, wet wipes, burp clothes, bibs, soap, powder, etc.) Then, write down what each individual item actually costs. For the game, pull one item out at a time and have each guest make a guess as to how much that item actually costs (guests will write guesses on their own paper). Once all items have been guessed, the right prices will be revealed. Each player will reveal what they wrote and the person who guessed closest for that particular prize gets a point. Then the next item’s price is revealed, and this repeats. Whichever guest has the most points after all item’s prices have been revealed will receive a prize.

Have Fun!

Surgeon general is launching an initiative to support breastfeeding

U.S. Surgeon General, Regina Benjamin, has published a Call for action to support breastfeeding in the last week of January 2011. Benjamin expects the initiative to educate the public about the many benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and infants and to generate support in the workplace care and home nursing mothers. The program will use public service announcements broadcast more than 1,000 U.S. television stations to educate the community benefits of breastfeeding.

Breastfeeding Statistics

Between 75 percent of mothers who initiate breastfeeding, only 43 percent continue to do so after six months and of these only 13 percent do not as a substitute for the formula and milk. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends exclusive breastfeeding for at least six months. Benjamin hopes the initiative increase the number of women who choose to breastfeed at first to 82 percent and the rate of those who breastfeed exclusively for six months by 25 percent. Pregnant women, trying to decide or not to breastfeed, talk to your OB / GYN physicians on the problems and concerns.

Place Work Support

Benjamin describes various methods to encourage women to breastfeed. Is expected to approve mandates employers need provide private spaces where mothers can pump breast milk during the day. Employers should apply elsewhere in the space such as bathrooms and employees must provide enough breaks to pump breast milk. Benjamin recommended that employers provide paid leave for new mothers and access to experts on breastfeeding through their benefit programs.

OB / GYN pediatric clinic and support

When you first launched your call action to support breastfeeding, the Department of Health urged aa href = "http://www.thevintageobgyn.com/"> OB / GYN the physicians and pediatricians to provide education and support for pregnant women pregnant women and infants. Women often hide in their decision to breastfeed their peers and employers as a result of the sexualization of the media's persistent disregard for breast and practice of employers. Information on the education of health professionals, professional and public service announcements will help raise awareness the public benefits of breastfeeding for mothers, babies and the community at large.

Nursing Support

Many OB / GYN clinics have partnerships with certified lactation consultants. Certified lactation consultants specialists in lactation management clinic. Many agencies certification exist, but the lactation International Association (ILCA) is one of the best known of these. Some offices of OB / GYN and pediatric may lactation have full-time staff. Other consultants certified public clinics, hospitals or owner of a private practice. Consultants nursing mothers counsel of different types of breast pumps available, issues of breastfeeding, nutrition, breast milk during the exercise lactation, and a variety of other information related to breastfeeding.

Final encouraging progress

Empirical Evidence convincingly show that breastfed babies have higher IQ than bottle-fed and have a lower incidence of death and serious illness that focuses in much later in childhood. Breastfeeding mothers have an easier return to their pre-pregnancy size and weight and have a lower risk of postpartum depression. Always sterile, always at the right temperature, and always free – breast milk provides optimal nutrition for infants. The mothers take a stand and give your baby best.

Nursing Bra

History

Further information: History of the brassiere

The first US patent for a bra was granted in 1913 to Mary Phelps Jacob. Her invention is the most widely recognized as the predecessor to the modern bra and consequently the nursing bra. The first nursing bras entered the market in 1927 when William Rosenthal, the president of Maidenform, took out brassier design patents including nursing, full figured and the first seamed uplift bra.

Maidenform began to lead the way in the bra industry with their ad campaign, “I dreamed I…” in 1949 which emphasized that women could be whatever they wanted. Most importantly, different bras were designed for different types of activities. Thus, if you were pregnant you could purchase a maternity bra, if you were breastfeeding you could purchase a nursing bra. Maidenform’s innovations included adjustable straps, maternity bras, nursing bras and standardized cup sizes. Many bra manufacturers have since built on Maidenform’s designs, aiming to improve fashionable and functionality of nursing bras.

Innovations, patents and disputes

After World War II, the brassiere market increased exponentially along with the post war baby boom and the zip-up nursing bra was invented. Nursing bras saw little innovation for some time and the market was dominated by larger lingerie companies who would simply add a clip.

Today the nursing bra industry is very segmented with various players including traditional brassier players such as Wonderbra but more specifically is seeing speciality brands take charge in the market with increased quality, innovations in design and added expertise.

Several nursing bra patents are pending, or have been granted for various innovations and improvements. Bravado Designs was the innovator in the market by introducing a multi-band/multi-cup sizing system. This innovation was significant as pregnant women in the past had troubles with their nursing bras, specifically the comfort of their bras, as women’s breasts can fluctuate three cup sizes within an hour while nursing. Other innovations included: Mary Sanchez received a patent in 1991 for the one-handed fastening method and variable adjustment of cup size. More recently, a 2005 patent was granted to Line Rothman for the nursing bra tank designed for Glamourmom, which features added coverage of a mother’s mid-section, although this patent has not been upheld in court.

Size fluctuations

After about the third day after giving birth, the mother milk omes in and at that point changes in the breast happen very quickly. The breasts swell significantly and can feel achy, lumpy and heavy (which is referred to as engorgement). This swelling typically amounts to an increase of one or more cup sizes from her 3rd trimester. In addition, her cup size will vary depending on whether she has just nursed her baby or if she is full. Also, each breast could be different in size from the other depending on which side the baby tends to feed on. These fluctuations settle down after 10-12 weeks of nursing. At this point the rib band size will decrease and go back to the pre-pregnancy size. This is the size the mother will stay at until she finishes breastfeeding.

Importance of fit

Because of all of these size changes, a bra that accommodates this fluctuation is incredibly important, particularly during the first 2 months of breastfeeding. In addition to being important for comfort, an ill-fitting bra or a bra that does not grow or shrink with mom could result in infection if it is compressing a milk gland, for example. When a milk gland becomes compressed, it could clog and possibly result in an infection called mastitis. Extremely painful, mastitis is difficult for mom not just physically but emotionally. A well-fitting nursing bra provides support to the breasts and helps to maintain breast shape by limiting the stretching of supportive tissue.

Types of nursing bras

Traditionally, nursing bras are made with flaps of fabric over the cup which can be unclasped and pulled down to access the breast. Even with the flap pulled down, the cup of the bra supports the breast. No-flap versions made of stretchable fabric which can pulled to the side at feeding time are also available.

Underwire versions of nursing bras can constrict the breast if not properly fitted and cause either blocked ducts or mastitis. The best nursing bras are stretchy, absorbent, and don’t bind the breasts in any way that could interfere with milk flow. Women are recommended to wear a bra that is 100 percent cotton or a cotton-Lycra blend or other stretchy synthetic.
